About me

Chinatsu Sunaga is an artist / illustrator based in London. Born and raised in Japan, Chinatsu has always had a passion for painting and drawing, and composing songs and stories. After graduating from Yokohama National University in Japan with a BA in Education (majoring in Child Psychology), Chinatsu began a career in the publishing industry as an editor and writer.

In 1997 she came to England to do a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Kent Institute of Art and Design, followed by a BA(Hons) in Illustration at Loughborough University School of Art and Design. In 2001, her Milky Way Train paintings were awarded the Highly Commended Prize at the Macmillan Prize for Children's Picture Book Illustration. Since then, Chinatsu has worked in various media roles (such as publicity, editorial and merchandise) for companies in the UK and other European countries, USA and Japan.

In 2009, Chinatsu completed Early Years Teacher Training course in Emerson College, where she learnt needle felting. Since then, she has been creating felt animals and has worked in Steiner Kindergartens in London as a teacher and learning support assistant for a child with autism. Chinatsu is also active as a writer and has published children's stories and books in Japan.
